The Cherokee Healing and Wellness Coalition is sponsoring a Wellbriety Summer Moon celebration and covered dish lunch on Saturday, June 20 from 11am – 2pm at Pavilion #1 at the Oconaluftee Island Park. Everyone is invited.
“In keeping with Native Tradition to honor the growing season of summer, we proudly honor the Cherokee Youth Council as they demonstrate well-balanced and selfless giving leaders,” the Coalition said in a statement.
The covered dish lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. The Coalition will provide tea, coffee, water, plates, cups, utensils and chicken. Please bring a side dish to share. Healthy local and traditional Cherokee foods are encouraged.
The Coalition statement went on to say, “June is the month that the Cherokee People began to prepare for celebrations of all things growing. It is also the time to do home repairs and help those in need. We have many groups here in Cherokee and in Snowbird that are committed to helping others. The Cherokee Healing and Wellness Coalition is committed to enhancing the lives of people by honoring and reclaiming the seven Cherokee core values especially in the promotion of clean, wholesome, healthy life styles. The seven core values are: spirituality, harmony, education, sense of place, honoring the past, strong character, and sense of humor.”
Coalition Vice Chair Carol Long said, “Join us as we celebrate the beginning of summer and honor the young people who are such an inspiration to many of us.”
