Darius Lambert, a member of the Cherokee Middle School cross country team, has qualified to compete in the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 13. The race will take place at the Whispering Pines Golf Course in Myrtle Beach, SC, and Lambert will compete in the boys 13-14 year old 4K race.
“I believe in this young man, and I know he will bring great honor to our nation in the days to come,” said Eddie Swimmer, CMS cross country head coach.
Lambert qualified for the Junior Olympic event by placing 8th in his division at the Footlocker Regional Cross Country Championship held Nov. 29 in Charlotte and by placing in the North Carolina Junior Olympics race held in Greensboro on Nov. 16.
Lambert will be joined by over 3,000 other runners competing in five two-year age divisions ranging from ages 7-18.
He has taken second place two years in a row at the Smoky Mountain Middle School Cross Country Championships.
