  • The American Legion Steve Youngdeer Post 143 will host North Carolina Division of Veterans Affairs District Service Office Steven Robertson on Thursday, July 17 from 1-4pm at the Qualla Boundary Public Library.  Veterans and family members who have any questions or business concerning Veterans Affairs are invited to attend.  Please bring all important documents with you to better understand your claims.  Info: Warren Dupree, Post 143 service officer, 508-2657
  • The 1st Annual Smoky Mountains Veteran Stand Down will be held Thursday, Aug. 21 from 9am – 3pm at the Macon County Community Facility Building in Franklin.  Veterans, if you require medical assistance, information on veteran’s benefits, supportive services, or military surplus gear to ease your at-risk situation, please contact Warren Dupree 508-2657 for more information.  If you require transportation to this event, contact Dupree.
  • A staffer from Congressman Mark Meadows (R-NC) office will meet with constituents in the large conference room at the Ginger Lynn Welch Complex on Tuesday, July 22 from 10am – 3pm.  Anyone needing assistance with any agency of the federal government, such as the VA, Social Security, BIA, National Park Service, or in getting a passport should stop by.
