CHEROKEE RUNNERS
The Cherokee Runners held its annual membership meeting on Saturday, March 16 at the Ginger Lynn Welch Community Room. Several topics of importance were covered including recognition certificates to members as well as recognition to the group’s partners for 2012. The group also elected the following officers for the 2013 year (March 2013 through March 2014): Chad Bowman-President, Seth Holling-Vice President, Gerri Grady-Secretary and Elnora Thompson-Treasurer. Outgoing President and founding member, Stephan Swimmer, pledged his continued support and aid as the transition takes place as well as for the coming year’s events and activities. Thank you, Stephan, for great leadership over the last 3 ½ years!
Also on Saturday, Jimmy Oocumma, Robin and Steph Swimmer and Dave Schwartz participated in the annual Shamrock Run in Asheville. Robin and Jimmy competed in the 10K while Dave and Steph ran the 5K. Three other Cherokee Runners, Charlie Myers, Seth Holling and Michael Henson, completed the grueling Assault on Black Rock that is held in Jackson County. The 7-mile course gains elevation of over 2,700 feet with 3.5 miles up and 3.5 down. Tough!
The Cherokee Runners will now meet once a month on the second Tuesday at the Age Link Conference Room at 5pm. If you are interested in running or walking or fitness in general, please consider coming to a meeting. Anyone is welcome to join the Cherokee Runners regardless of fitness level. You do not need to be fast or a distance runner to join! Check out our Facebook page or the group’s website at www.cherokeerunners.com. See you at the start line!
