Wendell Wayne Howard, 68, of the Birdtown Community went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 12, 2013. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Tinker and Ethel Mae Howard. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Dewayne, Sam, Lloyd, and Donald Howard; four sisters, Ellen Phillips, Pearl Owenby, Tinker Sharon Howard, and Linda Sue Howard. He was an avid golfer and fisherman.
He was survived by his wife of 39 years, Doris Rowland Howard; two children, Jeremy Howard and wife Christina of Candler, Regina Brooks and husband Kenny of Cherokee; five grandchildren, Trystan, Jeremiah, Madalyne, Isaiah, and Grady; and two sisters, Reva Howard Edwards and husband James of Bryson City, and Retta Howard of Bryson City.
Funeral services will be held at 2p.m. on Saturday, March 16 in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Roger Roland will officiate with burial in the Roundhill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9p.m. on Friday, March 15 at the funeral home.
