At 2:08 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Great Smoky Mountains National Park Rangers were notified of a two vehicle accident on Newfound Gap Road (U.S. 441) just north of Collins Creek Picnic Area in North Carolina.

The accident involved a 4-door Chrysler SUV which collided with a National Park Service pickup truck. The driver of the SUV, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has now been identified as Tracy Anderson, 34, of Morrice, MI.

The park service employees who were involved in the accident were transported to Cherokee Regional Medical Center, treated and released.

Since the accident involved Park Service Personnel, the park requested North Carolina Highway Patrol to conduct an investigation into the accident. It is still under investigation.
