RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public workshop on Thursday, Nov. 29, on proposed improvements to N.C. 143 in Graham County. The workshop will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Graham County Community Center, located at 196 Knight Street in Robbinsville.
NCDOT is proposing safety improvements, including widening and realignment, to 4.5 miles of N.C. 143 from West Buffalo Creek to N.C. 143 Business west of Robbinsville. N.C. 143 is a windy, two-lane road that serves as the primary east-west corridor for Graham County. The crash rate along this section of N.C. 143 is higher than the state’s average crash rate for rural two-lane roads.
Right-of-way acquisition for this project is scheduled to begin in 2017, and construction is scheduled to start in 2019. These dates are tentative and are subject to change
NCDOT representatives will be available at the workshop to answer questions and receive comments about the proposed project. Project maps will also be on display. The public is invited to attend at any time during the workshop hours. There will not be a formal presentation.
For additional information or to provide comments, contact NCDOT Project Development Engineer Wilson Stroud at (919) 707-6045 or wstroud@ncdot.gov, or visit the project webpage.
NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who want to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Stroud as soon as possible so that arrangements can be made.
People who speak Spanish and do not speak English, or have a limited ability to read, speak or understand English, may receive interpretive services upon request prior to the meeting by calling 1(800)481-6494.
