The Cherokee Business Development Center and Sequoyah Fund have announced they will host a workshop on Tuesday, July 10 to focus on the U.S. Small Business Administration’s HUBZone certification program.
Created as a result of the 1998 HUBZone Empowerment Act, the program aims to steer federal contracts to small businesses in historically under-utilized (HUB) economic zones. The Small Business Administration is responsible for administering program.
Mike Arriola, Senior Area Manager for the SBA based in Asheville, will conduct the workshop. “The federal government is the world’s largest purchaser of goods and services, and the Small Business Act targets 23 percent of contracting dollars to go to small businesses,” commented Arriola. “This workshop seeks to connect Cherokee small businesses with the HUBZone program, which is one of the tools that government agencies use to help small businesses tap into those business opportunities.”
The workshop is open to small business owners in Cherokee seeking to do business with the federal government. The event is free of charge and will occur from 10-11am in the large conference room of the Ginger Lynn Welch Complex. Attendees are required to register with the Business Development Center 497-1666.
