ON-THE-JOB (OJT) WORKERS BEGIN SUMMER WORK/TRAINING
One of the Boys Club’s purposes is to provide employment and training opportunities for our community, especially our youth. This year the Boys Club received 31 applications for summer employment through the Club’s OJT program. Fourteen of these applicants were selected to work in various Club Departments. They began their summer employment this past Monday and will work through Friday, August 3.
In order for the youth to be considered for this program, they had to supply a letter or letters of recommendation from their school, church or community leaders. The students had to be in good standing with the school and community to be hired.
CULTURAL SUMMER SCHOOL BEGINS
Cherokee Central Schools began their “Cultural” Summer School on Monday, June 4. This special session of summer school will run two weeks and will end on Friday, June 15. The Boys Club is running six buses to pick up summer school students. If you have questions about the bus routes, please call Allan Oocumma or Albert Arch at 497-9101.
CLUB’S PAINT AND BODY SHOP PAINTS SCHOOL BUSES
The Boys Club’s Paint and Body Shop, a division of the Club’s Garage, is in the process of painting five of its school buses. The state-of-the-art paint bay provides enough space to paint vehicles as large as buses and trucks but still offers service to privately owned and other fleet owned vehicles as well.
TEMPORARY AND PART-TIME BUS DRIVERS NEEDED
If you are interested in becoming a bus driver, the Club is looking for part-time and temporary bus driver applicants who either have their CDL or are willing to take the training to obtain the CDL. UNTO THESE HILLS BEGINS 2012 SEASON
The Cherokee Historical Association opened their 2012 season of Unto These Hills on Friday, June 1. Through the Club’s agreement with the Historical Association, an additional 13 youth were hired to work as traffic directors and parkers for the drama for the summer months. The Club also provides shuttle bus service for the guests attending the nightly performances of the drama.
