The gallery at the Oconaluftee Institute for Cultural Arts is currently featuring the 2012 SCC Student Art Show for the month of April. The exhibition features 73 works of art by 42 students currently enrolled in programs at Southwestern Community College, including Heritage Arts, Macon Campus, and both Macon & Jackson Early Colleges.

“We had an excellent response this year as we have three times as many entries compared to last year.” said Jeff Marley, program coordinator.

Brian Kane, Fine Arts Instructor, added “The show is a learning opportunity for students to explore the aspects formal presentation as well as sales.”

Much of the 73 works are for sale, with a wide range of prices to suit any budget. From all of the entries, one Best of Show and three Honorable Mentions were selected. The names of those selected will be announced at the reception on April 12th. Each of those selected will receive a cash prize, be on display at the College for 2012, and then be automatically entered in the state-wide art exhibition in Raleigh for 2013. The exhibition runs through April 30 and is free and open to the public. A reception will be held on Thursday, April 12, from 5-7pm.
