Norman E. Sill, 73, of Chesapeake, VA died Thursday, March 21, 2012 at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA. He was born June 2, 1939 in Bedford, a son of the late Julian D. and Dorothy (Corle) Sill. On November 22, 1975 in Bedford, he married Jean Armachain and his death ends a marriage union of 36 years. She survives along with a daughter, Penny Sue, wife of Howard Barr of Leesville, SC, two sons, Norman Scott Sill and wife Della Sue of Washington state, and Jeffrey Eugene Sill and wife Dana of Naples, FL, four stepchildren, Debra Jean Stamper, Robert F. Stamper, William David Stamper and wife Alyne, all of Cherokee, and Wendy Sue, wife of Kenneth Baum, of Virginia Beach, VA. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Norman was a member of the Bedford Trinity Lutheran Church and the Bedford Moose Lodge #480. He was retired from the shipyard in Portsmouth where he had worked for 13 years, prior to that he had served in the Navy for 20 years.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 26, at 11a.m. in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Reverend Paul Claycomb officiating. Burial will be at Bedford Cemetery with military rights conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
