The Family Support Services department wants to thank each and every one who has contributed to the Christmas Store and Food Pantry sponsored by their office. Special thanks to the Santa Braves, Jan Walkingstick and the people who attended her Christmas Bazaar, Food Lion, Tow String Church, the People Helping People Bike Ride organizers and participants and the coordinators of the Santa Braves Christmas Bazaar. There are countless others who donate anonymously and work behind the scenes to ensure that people receive the help they need during this special time and every day and their efforts do not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

SCHOOL DELAY INFORMATION
Please note that the Cherokee Central Schools will have a two-hour delay and a three-hour delay schedule this year if necessary due to inclement weather. All schedule decisions will be made as soon as possible each morning and will be posted to the Boys Club’s Facebook Page, will be aired on WLOS-TV Channel 13, will be announced by Cherokee Dispatchers and will be announced through the Schools’ information network.
CLUB HOLIDAY NEWS
At this time of year the Boys Club is busy preparing for the holiday season. The different departments are sharing meals with their staff and lights and tinsel are being strung. There are wreaths on the doors and trees in the hallways. There are even large red bows on the school buses! The children are anticipating their time off from school (and we assume the teachers and staff are as well).
Let us not forget why we celebrate Christmas and let us be thankful for our friends, family and freedom each and every day. The Boys Club’s motto is “By Prayer and By Work” and we pray that everyone will share the blessings we enjoy and will work to make every day better for someone.
In keeping with the holiday spirit, the following poem was submitted by one of the Boys Club’s employees who said it touched her many years ago:
Keeping Christmas
May we all, in keeping with Christmas, look beyond the wrap and bow, size and shape and colored tissue, to what matters far below. May we find our joy in giving, not in counting what we get, sharing all that is within us, without grudging or regret.
May we all, in keeping Christmas, always find the time to be, sweet and gentle and more loving, to those not as blessed as we. For it’s not just friends and family we should care about, you know, it’s the young, the old, and the lonely, who are everywhere we go.
Life is short and time is fleeting, fill the years with things that count, it takes more than good intentions, God demands the full amount. Of our strength and our emotions, we must cast all else aside, He was born for us, and also, it was for us that He died.
So this year, in keeping Christmas, mindful of what you’re about, use love as your legal tender, for it never will run out. You can never over-spend it, for no matter what you do, all the love you give to others, will be given back to you!

THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS
The Boys Club extends its heartfelt sympathy to the friends and families of those who have recently lost loved ones. In the past week we have lost Stevey Ross, Carol Saunooke, Tonya Smith and Roxanna Stamper. Many of the Club and School employees are directly affected by these losses as friends and family members and the rest are affected as a community. Our thoughts and prayers are with each of these families and their friends. May they receive comfort in their time of need.
