Cherokee Preservation Foundation will host its ninth annual Community Celebration event on Friday, May 13, for grantees, partners and EBI community members. The event will take place at the Cherokee Youth Center located at 1570 Acquoni Road in Cherokee, from noon to 1:30 p.m., with the doors opening at 11:30 a.m. It will include a complimentary Indian dinner served at noon prepared by the North American Indian Women’s Association (NAIWA).
The event will feature short presentations from three grantees about programs funded by the Foundation.
Wild South has been documenting Cherokee trails throughout western North Carolina and will briefly discuss its project at the May 13 Cherokee Preservation Foundation Community Celebration.
- Wild South will talk about the work the organization is doing in consultation with the EBCI Tribal Historical Preservation Office to document major historical Cherokee trails throughout the western North Carolina region.
- The Right Path Leaders will describe a new adult leadership development program for adult members of the EBCI.
- Tommy Cabe will discuss the Natural Resources Ramp Project, in which work is being done to study ramps, ramp gathering techniques and long-term resource management of specific ramp patches.
More than a dozen other grantees will have exhibits at the event and will share information about their programs and projects.
