The Cherokee High School Lady Braves have enjoyed excellent weather as the 2010 season has rolled along. We have four returning players from the 2009 season, Hannah Youngdeer, Katlin Bradley, Karleigh Reeves, and Heather Owle.
First year players who have strengthened the team are Elle Bradley, Paige Jackson, and Kayla Smith. Our practices have been centered on the instruction from the Sequoyah National Pros. Ryan Ott and his staff have been committed to the advancement of Junior golf and particularly the CHS ladies team. Their expertise and teaching abilities have made our team competitive among the AA teams and the AAA teams in Western North Carolina.
Senior team member Hannah Youngdeer has led the team in scoring; her average score is 50, which qualifies her to compete in the regional tournament to be held at Asheville Municipal on Oct. 25. Other seniors, Katlin, Paige, and Kayla have also made strong showings. Sophomore Elle Bradley has been a strong player and her relentless commitment to practice has been an inspiration to all of us. We are looking forward to her leading the team next year.
The team has played quite a few matches at area courses. Our best showing was at Sequoyah National on Sept.16 where we defeated Franklin, Enka, and North Buncombe. Hannah was the lowest scorer with a 47 on the back nine.
