Marietta, Ga. – The 7th Annual Southeast Festivals and Events Conference was held in Macon Ga., Feb. 15-17, and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians walked away with four medals including two golds.
The Tribe won in the following categories: Gold – Best Event Photograph, Festival of Native Peoples; Gold – Best Event Program or Brochure, Cherokee Indian Fair; Bronze – Best Festival or Event under $75,000, Cherokee Fall Rod Run; and Silver – Best Festival or Event under $75,000, July Pow Wow.
In addition to those awards, the July Pow Wow and the Festival of Native Peoples and Cherokee Art Market were named “Top 20 Events in the Southeast”. All of the events were planned and carried out by the EBCI Marketing & Promotion Division. The Festival of Native Peoples was sponsored, in part, by the Cherokee Preservation Foundation.
“The conference was a huge success providing educational sessions and panel discussions to 150 event professionals”, said Wendy Thomas, SFEA Chairman. Thomas attributes the success to outstanding speakers and a well-rounded program plus a super core of volunteers.
During the awards program, top festivals & events throughout the southeast were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the festivals and events industry by receiving the prestigious Kaleidoscope Award, which is sponsored by RCS Productions. The name Kaleidoscope was selected because the award committee felt the colors & changes in the image represent the many different festivals and facets within the events.
“The quality of submissions continues to go up each year making it harder and harder to choose only one winner”, says Carolyn Morris, Award Coordinator, SFEA. “It is a wonderful opportunity to showcase your event or community and award those who have worked hard creating the perfect event or festival”
