The Cherokee Lady Braves edged Highlands 43-36 in the 1st Round of the 1A Sectional Playoffs on Monday, Feb. 22. Elizabeth Wahnetah led the way for Cherokee with 9 points and 4 steals followed by Tashina Martin with 8.
The game started out slow and Cherokee led 5-2 after the first period. Both teams picked it up a bit and were tied at 15-15 at the half. The Lady Braves outscored Highlands 28-21 in the final two periods to take the win and advance in the playoffs.
The Lady Braves travel to East Wilkes in Ronda, NC on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
Courtney Rogers, Taylor Buras and Emily Munger all had 8 points to lead Highlands.
Other Lady Braves scorers included: Tahnee Arkansas 5 (8 rebounds), Rayna Davis 2 (8 rebounds and 3 blocks), Paige Jackson 7, Alexis Maney 1, and Jordyn Thompson 4.
