Correction to Wrestling Article
An article entitled “CHS Wrestling Team makes History” published in the Feb. 4, 2010 issue of the Cherokee One Feather stated that this year’s CHS varsity wrestling team was the first in school history to qualify for the State Dual Team Championship. This is not factual as this is actually the third team from Cherokee High School to qualify. According to Rick Strunk, NCHSAA associate executive director, “According to some previous research we’ve compiled with schools’ records in postseason play, this would appear to be the third trip by a Cherokee team into the dual team tournament, with the last appearance in 1991. So I would think that ’90 and ’91 are the only years Cherokee has qualified. Cherokee was listed as the number-two team from the SMC in the 1990 dual team playoffs.” The One Feather apologizes for the error and would like to thank T.W. Saunooke, 1990 team member, for bringing this to our attention first.
