In recent weeks, the Cherokee Recreation department held its first Start Smart Basketball program for children between the ages of 3-5.

Cherokee Recreation has paired with New Vision Gymnastics out of Franklin to bring this opportunity home to Cherokee kids.

The Lady Braves (1-1) were held to two hits in their Smoky Mountain Conference opener at Swain on Tuesday, March 12. The Lady Maroon Devils, led by Kendra Kirkland who hit two home runs, won the game 11-1.

For the third year in a row, seven-time defending state champions Bishop McGuinness (23-7) played the role of the villain and ended the Lady Braves season in the 1A Western Regional Final. Cherokee (27-3) lost 58-56 to the Lady Villains on Saturday, March 9 at the Fleming Arena at UNC-G.

The Cherokee Lady Braves are on their way to Greensboro to face Bishop McGuinness in the 1A Western Regional basketball final tomorrow (March 9) at 11:30am.
