On a cold, blustery day, Kendall Toineeta jumped out in front early and didn’t look back as she ran to a first place finish at the Smoky Mountain Conference Cross Country Championships held at Cherokee High School on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Cherokee Preservation Foundation has announced that Juanita Wilson has been hired as Program Manager for The Right Path, a culture-based leadership development program for adult members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

The new Immediate Care Center had an official ribbon cutting and open house on Wednesday, Oct. 19. The facility will serve only those eligible for services at the Cherokee Indian Hospital and will handle a variety of non-emergency medical problems.

The Cherokee Rodders are hosting the popular “Cruise the Smokies” Rod Run during the spectacular fall leaf season. This is the largest show and shine in the area for hundreds of classic and customized Pre-1981 cars and trucks.

The Blackfeet woman responsible for the successful 14-year legal battle with the federal government over Indian Trust Fund accounts has passed away. Elouise Cobell, a member of the Blackfeet Nation, died at the age of 65 on Sunday, Oct. 16.
