Clay County’s first annual Cherokee Heritage Festival took place on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Cherokee Heritage Exhibit near the square in Hayesville.

Ribbon cutting held for Immediate Care Center
The new Immediate Care Center had an official ribbon cutting and open house on Wednesday, Oct. 19. The facility will serve only those eligible for services at the Cherokee Indian Hospital and will handle a variety of non-emergency medical problems.
Cherokee Rodders to host “Cruise the Smokies”
The Cherokee Rodders are hosting the popular “Cruise the Smokies” Rod Run during the spectacular fall leaf season. This is the largest show and shine in the area for hundreds of classic and customized Pre-1981 cars and trucks.
Indian Country mourns passing of Elouise Cobell
The Blackfeet woman responsible for the successful 14-year legal battle with the federal government over Indian Trust Fund accounts has passed away. Elouise Cobell, a member of the Blackfeet Nation, died at the age of 65 on Sunday, Oct. 16.

New Immediate Care Center opens
Cherokee Indian Hospital is opening a satellite Immediate Care Center in Cherokee. The current Urgent Care Clinic, located in the Outpatient area of the hospital, moved to the new location at 75 Painttown Road on Monday, Oct. 17.
