Police Commission pledges support to transitional program

Kylex Pheasant, a youth member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, cut the ribbon as the brand-new EMS Family Playground opened officially in the Yellowhill Community on the afternoon of Thursday, May 11.  The facility, which will be under the management of the Cherokee Recreation program, is located adjacent to the EMS Building off of Acquoni Road. 

The Investment Committee of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) is working to increase the financial literacy of tribal members of all ages. 

Qualla Enterprises, LLC addresses some questions raised on their medical cannabis operation following Chief Sneed’s veto of Res. No. 496 (2023) and Ord. No. 531 (2023).

A month after Tribal Council approved $64 million for the Qualla Enterprises, LLC medical cannabis business, the legislation approving the monies has been vetoed.

During the May session held on the morning of Thursday, May 4, Tribal Council approved to cover costs to remodel and rebrand the Chestnut Tree and Hampton Inn hotels located on the Qualla Boundary.

No criminal charges will be brought against a South Carolina resident who shot and killed Lambert Wilson last fall, according to District Attorney Ashley Hornsby Welch.
