The Cherokee Historical Association (CHA) will be the scariest place on the reservation…at least for the next month. From blood-soaked zombies to real-life ghost stories, the Cherokee Historical Cultural Campus will be a site of many screams in October.

Western Carolina University’s Mountain Heritage Day welcomed thousands of visitors to the campus Saturday, Sept. 27, to honor achievements in historic preservation and to sample mountain music, arts, crafts, foods, traditions, games and activities.

Smoke testing of the Sanitary Sewer System in Cherokee will take place from Oct. 13-24 in the area from Tribal Bingo to Frontier Shopping Center only. This survey will assist inspection crews in locating breaks and defects in the sewer system.

Cherokee Central Schools hosted the North Carolina School Board Association (NCSBA) Region 8 District Meeting on Thursday, Sept. 25.

Kendall Toineeta, CHS senior, was named Homecoming Queen at Homecoming festivities at Ray Kinsland Stadium on Friday, Sept. 26.

Jamie Lossiah was named the CMS Homeocming Queen and Jade Ledford was named the Homecoming Princess at Cherokee Middle’s homecoming festivities on Thursday, Sept. 25.
