Cherokee Preservation Foundation, the Office of the Principal Chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, the Cherokee Boys Club, the EBCI Housing Division and Harrah’s Cherokee Casino & Hotel are sponsoring the 8th annual Cherokee Day of Caring, a day-long community service event on Thursday, May 17. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up now.

During the event, members of the EBCI and community will help ten families or individuals in particular need who have been nominated by their communities clubs. Volunteers will lend a hand with painting, yard clean-up, gardening, and fix-it projects. Approximately 300 community members participated in the event last year.
No special skills are necessary in order to participate, but they would be valuable. Community members who can help during the entire eight-hour period between 8a.m. – 4p.m. are asked to call Janet Owle at 554-6934. Cherokee Boys Club employees who would like to volunteer should contact Travis Smith at 497-5274 and Harrah’s Cherokee Casino & Hotel employees should call Janna Hyatt at 497-8853. Tribal government employees who want to participate should consult first with their supervisor and then contact Ashleigh Brown Stephens at 497-7029.
Another feature of the Cherokee Day of Caring will be the honoring of ten Quiet Heroes who have served their communities unselfishly and a Good Neighbor Award for someone who has significantly helped members of the EBCI, but who does not live in one of the EBCI communities.
