Robert Johnson Wahnetah, 73, of Cherokee, passed away at Cherokee Indian Hospital on July 28, 2011 following an extended illness. He was a resident of the Yellowhill community and had served his country proudly as a Marine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Austin Wahnetah and Bessie Arch Wahnetah; a son, Robert Johnson Wahnetah, II; grandson, Michael Austin Wahnetah; sisters, Wille Sue Wahnetah Raby and Frances Vivian Ross.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Frances Hornbuckle Wahnetah; a daughter, Roberta Frances Wahnetah Long; sons, Howard Keith Wahnetah and Russell Lee Wahnetah; a sister, Phyllis Wahnetah Lambert; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Yellowhill Baptist Church on Saturday, July 30, 2011 from 6-10pm. The funeral will be held at the church on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 2pm. Burial will follow in the Wahnetah Family Cemetery.
Pastor Ed Kilgore, Rev. “Bo” Parris and Ray Kinsland will officiate. Pallbearers will be nephews, Robbie Wahnetah, Don Ross, Tom Wahnetah, Austin Lambert, Steve Lambert and Jeff McCoy.
