January report for Cherokee Central Board of Education

The School Board is beginning a complete, comprehensive study of the entire Cherokee Central Schools Campus. Additional classroom space is needed and the Board wanted to have all options and feasible solutions on the table before proceeding. They are contracting with PFA Architects to conduct the comprehensive study.

The Board approved the following personnel:
* ELA teacher for Cherokee Middle
* 1st grade teacher for Cherokee Elementary
* Custodial Supervisor
* 3 Substitute teachers
* 1 Substitute security
* 2 Employees increase in pay for obtaining Master’s Degree

The Board looked at an artist rendering for a new wrestling mat. It included pictures of the 7 Clans. The Board instructed Michael Bruce to obtain 3 more drawings before making the final selection.

The Board and the Administration are looking to revise and strengthen the “Code of Conduct” and Ethics Policy for all school employees and/or coaches.

Mr. Penland has contacted the State Alcohol Beverage Commission (ABC Board), and they are going to send an employee who travels around the state to talk with students about what alcohol does to teenagers/young adult’s brain.

The Board discussed the additional netting/fencing needed at the softball/baseball fields to protect the fans and players. They also discussed fixing the drainage problem behind the softball field.

Mr. Penland informed the Board that the BIE would be spending two days on campus, Jan. 18 and 19 to get an indepth view of our school system.

Mr. Penland informed the board about the Cherokee Chamber Singers singing at Disney World.

The Board went into closed session to discuss personnel matters and hear an appeal.
