Ashford Smith, an EBCI tribal member, has been elected as the Precinct Chair for the Swain County Democratic Party Whittier-Precinct. Ashford has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and is working on his master’s degree in public administration at UNC Charlotte. He currently is employed as training coordinator for the EBCI Public Health and Human Services Department.
Smith states, “I am honored to serve in this position and want to encourage everyone to register and vote in the Nov. 8 election. Regardless of how you vote, it is important to vote as what happens in the county, state and national elections impacts all of us.”
The next Whittier-Cherokee Precinct meeting will be Thursday, Aug. 18 at 5:30pm at the Birdtown Gym.
