CULLOWHEE – A workshop titled “iPhoneography Made Easy” will be offered Saturday, Dec. 13, by Western Carolina University’s Office of Continuing and Professional Education.

The workshop is designed to educate participants about the essential techniques and tutorials they can use to help them get perfect shots using smartphone cameras and photo-editing apps. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Cordelia Camp Building on WCU’s Cullowhee campus. The registration fee of $89 includes lunch.

Topics to be covered include techniques to improve iPhoneography, creative styles, best workflow practices and post-processing methods. Time will be allowed for students to set up smartphone cameras and gear, practice new techniques and receive feedback on images taken during the hands-on session. The class will cover information for all smartphones.

“While smartphone cameras are not likely to ever surpass the quality of digital cameras, many people are now using smartphone cameras over digital cameras because of their convenience,” said class instructor Les Saucier. “It’s important to remember that just because smartphone cameras are quick and easy to use, it doesn’t mean photography techniques should be ignored.”

Saucier is a professional nature photographer and Pisgah Forest resident who has taught nature photography across the nation for more than 30 years.

The Dec. 13 workshop is part of a series of one-day photography classes being offered through May on WCU’s Cullowhee campus and at the university’s instructional site at Biltmore Park. A variety of topics are being covered. Other classes scheduled for December are “Digital Printing Made Easy” and “Macro Photography Made Easy.”
