The EBCI Office of Internal Audit recognized those programs of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians which have demonstrated fiscal excellence during the 2nd Annual Success in Operations, Accountability, and Reporting (SOAR) Awards which were given out during Annual Council on Monday, Oct. 13.
Awards are granted at three distinct levels including Fiscal Recognition Certificate, Fiscal Commitment Award, and the Chief Noah Powell Fiscal Excellence Award.
Sharon Blankenship, Office of Internal Audit chief audit executive, stated, “The SOAR awards program was created to acknowledge Tribal programs who encourage and promote fiscal responsibility, sound financial decisions, best business practices and transparency. The EBCI Office of Internal Audit is committed to recognizing programs that work hard at fulfilling vision and accomplishing objectives.”
This year’s recipients of the Fiscal Recognition Certificate given “to all who demonstrate the drive toward fiscal excellence” include:
- Tribal Construction Special Projects
- Fleet Committee
- Software Steering Committee
- Fisheries & Wildlife Conservation Program
This year’s recipients of the Fiscal Commitment Award for those “who demonstrate serious commitment to fiscal excellence” include:
- Tribal Construction: Outside Projects
- Budget & Finance: Procurement
- Budget & Finance: Financial Reporting
This year’s Chief Noah Powell Fiscal Excellence Award given “in honor of the 21st Principal Chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Highest award to the program that achieves success in operations, accountability and reporting” was awarded to the Tribal Construction Inventory Program.
