CULLOWHEE – The Office of Career Services at Western Carolina University will sponsor a bicycle rodeo at the Jackson County Recreation Park in Cullowhee from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, April 27.
The afternoon’s activities will include a presentation of safety information, free bicycle and helmet inspections, a skills course for children just learning how to ride bikes and an off-road skills course for young riders with more experience.
The program also will feature a group ride for children and their parents, and a presentation for parents on how to teach children to ride without training wheels.
The event is free to all children. Participants should bring bikes, and helmets are required for all riders. A limited number of Whee Cyclists/Cullowhee Bicycle Rodeo T-shirts will be available for purchase.
Students majoring in health and physical education, parks and recreation, and emergency medical care at WCU will gain career-related experience while engaging with members of the local community, said Michael Despeaux, associate director of career services and cooperative education.
