THANK YOU

The Boys Club’s Child Care Department wants to thank the Cherokee Runners for their recent donation to the children of Agelink and the School Age Department for their Christmas fund.  The Cherokee Runners use the Child Care’s Conference Room as meeting space and wanted to contribute to the children as their way of saying thank you.

Agelink and School Age also thanks everyone for their participation in Friday’s Chili Bowl.  Thanks to those who prepared meals, donated supplies and to those who purchased meals.  Even though there were several fundraisers that day, Agelink still managed to clear $320 that will go toward the Christmas celebration for the children.

The Christmas Store, a division of Family Support Services, recently received a generous donation of toys and cash from Keredith Owens, representative of the People Helping People Toy Run, for the upcoming holiday season.  Two checks were presented to the Christmas Store; one check was in the amount of $1,957.50 from People Helping People, and the other check was in the amount of $25.00 from the Women of the Moose – Sylva Chapter.

The Christmas Store is funded solely on donations and fundraising efforts to provide gifts for local children who would not otherwise enjoy a Happy Christmas morning.  If you would like to make a donation of new toys or cash, please contact Leslie Lossiah at 497-6092 for information.

THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS

The Boys Club staff extends its sincere sympathy to the friends and family of Oneita Turpin who passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 20.  Mrs. Turpin was the mother of Pam Cope of the Club’s Agelink Department and grandmother to Kathy Dugan, former Board and Advisory Committee member.

We also want to extend sympathy to the friends and family of Nancy E. Whitetree, who passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 20.  Mrs. Whitetree was the sister of Eugene Brindle who retired from the Club’s Construction and Facilities Department and the sister-in-law of Martha Brindle who currently works in the Club’s Administration Department.

The Club also extends its sincere sympathy to the friends and family of Danny Taylor who passed away on Friday, Nov. 22.  Danny has many relatives in the community and is a cousin to Drew Grant who works at the Cherokee Children’s Home.

Our sincere sympathy goes out to the friends and family of Jackie Dugan who passed away on Sunday, Nov. 24.  Jay Thomasson, who works in the Club’s Shop Department, is Jackie’s nephew.   Many members of the Dugan family are Club or School employees and many have been affiliated with the Club and School in the past.

Please keep these many people in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

BALL STICK RAFFLE CONTINUES

The Raffle continues for the beaded stick ball sticks donated by Wilbur Paul to help raise money for the Children’s Home.  These sticks won First Place in the North Carolina Mountain Fair this year!  The drawing will be held on Dec. 14.  Tickets can be purchased at the first building of the Children’s Home (upstairs); from Beth Grant at the Boys Club; from Deb Chiltoskie at the BRAD Building; from Phyllis Ashenfelter at the Council House; from Kevin Tafoya at the Transit Building; and from anyone at CBC Printing.  Call Tigger Lambert at 497-5009 for more information.  See a photo of these beautiful sticks on the Boys Club’s Facebook page!
