Jordyn Thompson started playing basketball in Kindergarten, and now she’ll continue her career in college. The Cherokee High School senior signed a letter of intent on Thursday, May 23 to play this fall at Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn.
“It feels great,” she said. “I’m excited. I’m looking forward to meeting new people and getting to play for new people.”
Thompson was a four-year player for the Lady Braves and a three-year starter. The past two seasons she earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors. As a senior, she was selected to play in this year’s Blue-White All-Star game.
“I think it will be a great experience for her, and I’m really proud of all of her accomplishments,” said her mother Jennifer Thompson. “I’m just really proud of her.”
Lady Braves head coach Chris Mintz commented, “I think it will be an awesome experience that she gets a chance to fulfill one of her dreams and play in college. That’s what she wanted to do, and I’m proud of her and she’s worked hard to get where she’s at.”
In addition to basketball, Thompson ran cross country and track where she was a part of Cherokee’s 4x800M relay team that won this year’s 1A West Regional championship. In 2012, she won the Ray Kinsland Best Sportsmanship Award and this year she was awarded one of the Vernon Hornbuckle Memorial Christian Athlete Awards.
