Elmer Lee Swayney, 62, of Cherokee passed away at home on Feb. 28, 2012 following an extended illness.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Shirley A. Swayney; children, LeAnn Swayney Flippo of Cherokee and companion, Randy Saunooke; Sheila C. Owens and husband, Eddie Owens of Dandridge, TN; Anthony R. Swayney of Cherokee and companion, Bonnie Locust; Benjamin L. Swayney of Maryville, TN, and Samantha Swayney of Knoxville, TN and companion, Brian Hughes. He is also survived by his brothers, Floyd J. Swayney, Billy Joe Swayney, and Charles E. Swayney; sister, Joyce E. Bryant; and twelve grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard T. Swayney and his mother, Ollie Mae White and one brother, Calvin R. Swayney.
The family will receive friends at Sequoyah Baptist Church on Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012 beginning at 6 PM. The body will remain at the church until the service hour of 2 PM on Thursday, March 1, 2012.
The Rev. Tim James and the Rev. James “Bo” Parris will conduct the funeral services. The Pall Bearers will be D J Owens, Emmitt Flippo, Brian Hughes, and family and friends.
