Local artists and artisans in Swain and surrounding counties are invited to submit up to 4 original works of art for the annual community art exhibit at Swain County Center for the Arts.  Artwork for this nine-week exhibit will be received in the lobby of the Center for the Arts between 8am and 11am on Thursday, July 28, or earlier by appointment.  All artwork submitted should be available for display through the end of September and can be priced to sell.

Swain County Center for the Arts is equipped to show almost anything that can be hung on the wall or large sculptures that sit on the floor.  There are four maple cases with locked glass doors where items such as pottery, jewelry, baskets, carvings and other handcrafted items or small paintings can be displayed.

Each person may exhibit up to 4 original pieces of art.  The artwork can be done in any medium of any appropriate subject.  You may submit sculptures, paintings, drawings, photographs, needlework, etchings, batiks, weaving, wall hangings, pottery, baskets, jewelry or other original handcrafted items.  Artwork for the wall should be ready to hang.  Works on paper should be framed under glass or Plexiglas or they can be matted and shrink-wrapped without a frame.

Each piece you submit should have a 3” x 5” card attached with your name, address, and phone number.  Also, identify the artwork by title, the medium you used to create it, and the price if you wish to sell it.  If you don’t want to sell your artwork write NFS.   For example:  “Autumn Leaves,” acrylic painting on canvas, NFS.  If your artwork is sold as a result of this exhibit, we ask that you agree to donate ten percent to the ongoing programs and exhibits at Swain County Center for the Arts.

There will be many daytime and evening events at the Center for the Arts during August and September, including a concert to be followed by a meet and greet reception for the exhibiting community artists.

If you have original artwork that you created and would like to have exhibited, deliver it to Swain County Center for the Arts on Thursday, July 28, between 8:00 am and 11:00 am.  If you will be out of town and know you can’t deliver your artwork that day, please call Jenny Johnson at 488-7843 to make an appointment to bring your artwork prior to July 28.  Pickup time for the artwork will be on Wednesday, September 28, from 8:30 am to 10:00 am.
