The Cherokee Runners Organization (CRO) has announced their 1st Annual Cherokee Runners Moonlight Race 5K Run/Walk, which will take place on Monday, July 4.  The event will coincide with the Tribe’s 4th of July celebration and fireworks.  This race will help fund the Cherokee Runners Summer Running Camp and 20% of entry fees will be donated to the Cherokee Special Olympics.  At this time the CRO is seeking sponsorships from businesses and individuals.

There are several levels of sponsorship ranging from “Friends of the Cherokee Runners Classic” ($25 donation) to a “Title Sponsorship” ($500 donation).  Each level includes event day recognition and at least one complimentary race entry.  With each higher level, the more benefits you receive as a sponsor.

The Cherokee Runners Organization started in March of 2010 as an informal group of runners ranging from amateur to elite. After forming friendships and becoming a support for one another they decided to form a club.    They welcome runners, friends of runners, visitors, beginning runners and walkers of all levels to be a part of their club.  They recently acquired a 501(c)(3) status under the Road Runners Club of America, which means all contributions to CRO are tax deductible.

CRO is dedicated to promoting the sport of distance running through education and training; promoting running as a part of a healthy lifestyle; promoting personal fitness and community through organizing and managing running events and by providing means of communication among club members and creating opportunities for social activities.

The Cherokee Runners Organization believes in encouraging participations in running events for individuals of all levels of running abilities and acknowledge that volunteer participations is a foundation upon which the Cherokee Runners Organization exists.

The 1st Annual Cherokee Runners Moonlight Race 5K Run/Walk will offer a scenic, certified USAFT course along well-lit streets through downtown Cherokee towards the casino.  There will be one water stop at the halfway mark/turn around.

CRO member Dawna Paul challenges everyone; “Lace up your running shoes and meet me at the finish line! It’s going to be fun!”
