According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, three EBCI tribal members were sentenced in various crimes in U.S. District Court in Bryson City on Wednesday, June 16.
Oliver Otter, 40, of Whittier, previously entered a guilty plea on the Violence Against Women Act. He was sentenced to 64 months in federal prison. Otter’s case was brought by the Cherokee Indian Police Department.
Eugene Keith Harlan, 56, of Marble, previously entered a guilty plea to one count of felony possession of a firearm. He was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison. Harlan’s case was brought by the Cherokee Indian Police Department, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department.
David Jeffrey Blackfox, 40, of Cherokee, previously entered a guilty plea to failure to register as a sex offender. He was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release. Blackfox’s case was brought by the Cherokee Indian Police Department.
