An Alzheimer’s Awareness event was held on Saturday, May 22 at the Cherokee Indian Fair Grounds. Approximately 35 people came out to brave the rain, but sunshine prevailed that day. It was a beautiful afternoon to eat hotdogs and hamburgers and to get educated on the signs of Alzheimer and support for those who are dealing with this disease in their family. We are finding out that this is not an older person disease as thought but has affected people in their late forties and above.
Cherokee is now planning on putting in a special unit at Tsali Care to take care of these special needs patient. An Alzheimer’s Administration position is being placed in Cherokee to help with the administrative and support resources for this unit.
The event organizers would like to thank those who made this walk a success including: Laura Blankenship, 7 Graphics, Cherokee Crossing Food Lion, Kovers Anonymous, and to all those brave walkers.
Cherokee Team T-Shirts are available for $10 to raise funds for the Western North Carolina Walk on October 23. Please Contact Jane Blankenship 497-3015 or Lori Blankenship 497-9791/736-6015 to purchase shirts and join the Team.
