Cherokee swept by Rosman, Robbinsville;
sweep Rosman in make-up

The regular season is drawing to a close for Cherokee basketball. Both the Braves and Lady Braves lost to Rosman on Wednesday, Feb. 3 and to Robbinsville on Thursday, Feb. 4. But, they were able to turn it around as they both beat Rosman, in a make-up game, on Monday, Feb. 8.
Rosman’s boys team beat the Braves 68-58 on Wednesday behind a 23-point performance by Chaz West. Cherokee took a 20-18 first period lead and only trailed by one (34-33) at the half. The Braves led by three after three periods (49-46), but a 22 point fourth period sealed the game for the Tigers.
Cherokee was led by Greg Bradley with 15 points followed by Tre Owle with 14 points (4 assists, 4 steals). Other Braves scorers included: J.T. Wildcat 8, Seth Littlejohn 3, Tyler Williams 5, Tsaladi Sequoyah 10 (8 rebounds, 5 blocks), and A.J. Crowe 3.
Rosman’s girl team also won on the night beating the Lady Braves by three (60-57). The Lady Tigers’ Joanna Whitmire scored 23 points to lead Rosman in the very close game.
Cherokee led at halftime 31-29. Following a 14-14 third period, the Lady Tigers were able to outscore Cherokee 17-12 in the fourth period to take the win.
The Lady Braves were led by Paige Jackson with 11 points and 5 steals. Other Cherokee scorers included: Tahnee Arkansas 10, Kayla Smith 4, Tashina Martin 7 (6 rebounds), Celine Lambert 7, Rayna Davis 2, Jordyn Thompson 6, Elizabeth Wahnetah 6 (4 steals), and Alexis Maney 4.
The next night didn’t end up much better for Cherokee as the boys fell to Robbinsville 82-69 and the girls lost 64-57. The Black Knights exploded in the second period with 25 points and the Braves were unable to fill the gap despite outscoring Robbinsville 28-27 in the second half.
Cherokee was led by Tsaladi Sequoyah and Greg Bradley with 18 apiece. Sequoyah added 11 rebounds and 9 blocks. Other Cherokee scorers included: Owle 8, Wildcat 1, Crowe 8, Williams 4.
The Lady Black Knights’ Tacey Trammell was hard to stop with 31 points on the night to lead all scorers. Cherokee fell behind early 24-13 after the first period and was never able to catch up. The score of the other three periods combined was 58-56 in favor of Robbinsville.
The Lady Braves were led by Arkansas with 17 points followed by Elizabeth Wahnetah with 14 points and 4 steals. Other Cherokee scorers included: Jackson 8, Davis 12, Thompson 1, Lambert 3, Maney 6, and Martin 8.
Both the Braves and Lady Braves got revenge on Rosman for their loss on Wednesday with wins on Monday night. The Braves won 69-43 behind a 22-point performance by Owle who also had 8 rebounds in the game. The Lady Braves won 70-53 behind an identical 22-point performance by Arkansas who added 12 rebounds, 7 blocks and 4 steals to her impressive night’s stats.
Other scorers for the Braves included: Williams 12, Marty Medina 2, Seth Littlejohn 8, Sequoyah 10, Wildcat 9, and Crowe 6. Other Lady Braves scorers included: Crowe 2, Davis 17 (10 rebounds, 3 blocks), Lambert 2, Martin 2, Wahnetah 9, Maney 5, Jackson 3, and Thompson 8.
