Cherokee High School 2022-23 Academic Awards

Artists and writers from throughout Southwestern Community College’s service area gathered inside the Burrell Conference Center on Tuesday, May 9, for the official presention of the 14th edition of Milestone.

The North Carolina Trail of Tears Association (NCTOTA) and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Franklin have partnered to mark the site of the post-Removal Cherokee town of Sand Town – located at 542 St. Johns Church Road in Franklin, N.C.

For over 50 years, NCAIED has been helping Indian Tribes and businesses gain access to economic opportunity and growth. The organization also recognizes outstanding American Indian enterprises at this annual conference. Indigenous Boutique & Spa owners were honored as Native Woman Business Owners of the Year. 

A long-time employee of the Cherokee Senior Citizens Program has been honored by having a building named after her. 

The following students, all members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, received a Tribal Council Award for academic excellence during a ceremony at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort Convention Center on the morning of Monday, May 1. 

January 2020 was a much different time. While the next few months would completely shift the landscape of everything in life, Sara Duncan’s focus on a new program at Cherokee Central Schools (CCS) did not falter.
