Thomas Benedict completed the Kicking Asphalt Half Marathon on Saturday, Nov. 5 in Murphy.  His time was 2:08:15 (9:46 minute pace) and he came in first place.   The race was conducted in very cold temperatures and low visibility due to fog, but was still fun.  The course had some rolling hills and Thomas stated that it was challenging as well as enjoyable.

Benedict related, “For next year after running the Marine Corps 10K, if you want to have fun relaxing on a non-competitive half marathon, this would be a great one.”

Since this was the inaugural event, next year it will be larger.  On the same morning, Elnora Thompson completed the Mountain Splendor 5K in Black Mountain and placed in her age group.

The Cherokee Runners will be holding the first board meeting in early January.  During the holidays, the group will hold at least one dinner meeting.  As always, anyone is welcome to join regardless of fitness level.  Come with your goals and let us help you train!
