CULLOWHEE – “Summer Reading Adventures,” a program for rising first- and second-graders, will be offered Monday, July 28, through Friday, Aug. 1, by Western Carolina University’s Office of Continuing and Professional Education.
The program is designed to help children maintain the literacy level they have developed during the school year. It will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day in Room 141 of WCU’s Cordelia Camp Building.
Students will participate in reading aloud, shared writing experiences, a writer’s workshop and small guided reading groups. They also will learn and practice strategies needed to be effective readers and writers.
The program will be taught by Holly Whisnant and Jeri Hensley, two National Board Certified Teachers who have more than 20 years of combined experience in local elementary school classrooms.
The cost of the program is $139 per child. Lunch and snacks will be provided.
