RABUN GAP, Ga. – The Braves (0-1) and Lady Braves (0-1) traveled to Rabun Gap on Tuesday, Nov. 19 to open their 2013-14 season. The Braves lost 66-63 and the Lady Braves lost 59-51.
Bree Stamper led the Lady Braves with 17pts followed by Kendall Toineeta with 13. The first half was dead even with Rabun Gap scoring 14 to Cherokee’s 10 in the first period and those numbers flipped in the second period. The teams scored an identical 11 in the third and 15 in the fourth period to take it to overtime where it was all Rabun Gap who outscored Cherokee 9-1.
Toineeta also had 7 steals, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Stamper had 4 steals.
Pallas Kunaiyi led Rabun Gap with 24pts followed by EBCI tribal member Meona Feather with 16.
Other Lady Braves scorers included: Le Le Lossiah 2, Avery Mintz 8, Brionna Jumper 3, Peri Wildcatt 4 and Taran Swimmer 4.
Jason McMillan led the Braves with 17pts followed by Dustin Johnson with 14. Cherokee led at halftime 38-30, but Rabun Gap came back in the second half outscoring the Braves 36-25 to take the three point win.
Raven Frankiewicz had 6 steals and 8 rebounds for the Braves and Brandt Sutton, Darius Thompsn and Johnson each had 3 steals.
Andy Zagorac led Rabun Gap with 20pts followed by Luka Majstorovic with 15.
Other Braves scorers included: Sutton 4, Frankiewicz 7, Kennan Panther 7, Thompson 5, Silas Reed-Littlejohn 2 and Eli Littlejohn 7.
Cherokee hosts Mitchell for its home opener on Friday, Nov. 15. The girls tip-off at 6:30pm with the boys following at 8pm.
