Rabun Gap (Ga.) swept Cherokee’s varsity basketball teams on Monday, Jan. 28. The Lady Braves (15-2) lost only their second game of the 2012-13 season. Both losses have come to teams from Georgia.
The Lady Eagles squeaked out a 62-61 win over the Lady Braves with a 27-point fourth period. The game started fairly even with Rabun Gap leading 16-14 after the first period and Cherokee leading by one point 28-27 at the half.
The Lady Braves outscored the Lady Eagles by 10 in the third period to take an 11-point lead into the final period. But, then Rabun Gap turned it on outscoring Cherokee 27-15 to take the one point win.
Avery Mintz led Cherokee with 23pts followed by Alexis Maney with 20. Other Lady Braves scorers included: Jordyn Thompson 3, Kendall Toineeta 5, Bree Stamper 5, Le Le Lossiah 3 and Deija Burgess 2.
Erica Williams led Rabun Gap with 27pts.
The Braves (8-7) game was not as close as Rabun Gap outscored them 36-20 in the second half to take a 71-43 win. Raven Frankiewicz led Cherokee with 9pts followed by Seth Littlejohn with 6. Other Braves scorers included: Brandt Sutton 4, Jesse Toineeta 6, Hunter Lambert 1, Derrick Ledford 6, Chris Queen 5, Eli Littlejohn 1 and Silas Reed-Littlejohn 4.
Myles Marshall led Rabun Gap with 22pts.
