CCS School Board holds meeting on May 14
The Cherokee Central Schools (CCS) School Board met on the evening of May 14 at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in the Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort. The meeting was called to order at 3:33 p.m. by Chairperson Jennifer Thompson.
Tribal Council adopts Cherokee Speakers Memorial Day
On the morning of June 6, Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) voted unanimously to adopt Resolution No. 212 (2024), recognizing every Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving as Tsalagi Aniwonisgi Didanvdadisdi (Cherokee Speakers Memorial Day) to honor the lives of fluent Cherokee speakers who have passed.
Bingo could be coming back to Cherokee
Cherokee Tribal Bingo closed in 2020 due to COVID-19, and it never re-opened. Now, officials of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) are looking to start the operation again.

EBCI Cooperative Extension gives Annual Garden Contest awards
The 2023 EBCI Cooperative Extension Office’s Annual Garden Contest awards were given on the evening of Monday, Sept. 18 at the Yellowhill Activity Center. The contest judging occurred in the second week of July.
Pageants returning to Cherokee Indian Fair
One of the most significant changes this year is the highly anticipated return of the beloved pageants, including the Teen Miss, Little Miss, Junior Miss, and the crowning jewel, the Miss Cherokee Pageant.

I had lived away for some time and had not attended the fair in years. I was very excited to be able to go this year and wanted to experience everything. I enjoyed almost everything. However, the Pretty Legs Contest was unacceptable.
