Representative Crowe convicted of misdemeanor in Jan. 6, 2023 incident
Wayohi (Wolftown) Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) Rep. Bo Crowe was convicted of misdemeanor aggravated reckless endangerment in Tribal Court, receiving 1-year probation with a $250 fine on June 4. He was also required to pay court and probation supervision costs.
Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) approves adult-use cannabis
Adult-use (recreational) cannabis is a signature away from being legal on the trust lands of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI).
CCS School Board holds meeting on June 3
The Cherokee Central Schools (CCS) School Board met on the evening of June 3 in Ruth’s Chris Steak House at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort. The meeting was called to order at 4:44 p.m. by Chairperson Jennifer Thompson.

Tribal member wins awards for gardening, beekeeping
For Sharon Braswell-Zern and her husband, Leidy Zern, gardening and beekeeping are a way of life. Sharon, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, operates a farm with Leidy in Yancey County, N.C.
Scare-okee Committee continues to eye improvements.
The Scare-okee Committee met recently near the BIA Parking Lot and Oconaluftee Island Park to iron out additional details of the layout of this year’s “Trick or Treat Night in Scare-okee” event.
The Center for Native Health receives $30,000 Stewarding Native Lands Grant

John Calvin Standingdeer Sr. (John Bull), 86, of the Big Cove Community, went to his Heavenly Home Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024. A native of Cherokee, he was the son of the late Virginia Standingdeer.
