Joy Ann Craig – obituary

Joy Ann Craig, 87, of Whittier, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016.  Joy was born on September 6, 1929 in Knox County, TN to the late Joseph Orlando Pitner and Iva Grace Frazier Pitner.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, G. Lee Craig; twin brother, Loy; twin siblings, Ray Pitner and Faye Maynard; and sister, Odessa Pitner.

Joy is survived by her daughters, Vicki Craig (David) and Lea Ann Craig (John) of Whittier; her son, Barry Craig, of Whittier; sisters-in-law, Kay Hollingsworth of Columbia, SC and Shirley Pitner of Seymour, Tenn; grandchildren, Ashlea, Aaron, Adam, Candice, Shanna, Flint, Addison and Maddie; and several nieces and nephews.

Joy and Lee were owners and operators of Cherokee Campground and Craig’s Cabins in Cherokee for more than 50 years. Joy made many friends in her time there, often being referred to by her friends as a “real sweetie”. Joy loved flower gardening and tending to her many customers and friends at the campground.

Joy will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Visitation will be at the Crisp Funeral Home in Bryson City on Tuesday, March 15 from 12noon – 1pm.  Following the visitation, Joy will be buried alongside her husband at the Maltby Baptist Church cemetery in Marble.
