Big Cove held their annual Kolanvyi Day celebration in April.  We geared the event as a fundraiser and raised $1,400 to present to the Cherokee Cancer Support Group!  We would like to thank Patrick Lambert and the Cherokee Police Department for their donations, Indian Corn Throwdown for hosting the cornhole tournament, Yellowhill Commuity for use of their boards, Boys and Men stickball teams, and those who made monetary donations, donated items to the silent auction, or just volunteered their time.  Big Cove would like to offer a special thank you to Jerry Wolfe for calling both stickball games and gracing us with his knowledge and insight of our Cherokee culture.

Cherokee Day of Caring was held in May.  We nominated Cassandra Hill for the Day of Caring project.  We would like to thank all of the volunteers who came out and helped with her place.  It looks amazing!  We nominated Lavon Hyatt for the Good Neighbor award.  Lavon Hyatt has resided in the Big Cove Community for over 30 years and is a faithful member of the Straight Fork Baptist Church.  Lavon is a great role model for our community and a person who anyone would love to call their neighbor.  Lori Blankenship was this year’s recipient for the Quiet Hero award.  Lori has taken in 38 children during her years as a foster parent.  She has been active in the community for a number of years and is always ready to lend a helping hand wherever she is needed.
