New details released in head-on fatality

New details have been released in a head-on collision on Tuesday, April 14 that resulted in the death of an EBCI tribal employee.  The EBCI Public Safety Communications Center has identified the employee killed in the crash as Patrick Bradley Allison, 42, from Cherokee.  The wreck occurred on Birdtown Road (US-19) at around 7:52am.

Allison was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado on US19 towards Cherokee.  The second vehicle in the wreck was driven by Michael Dean Tomes, 30, from Monroe, Ga., who was heading towards Bryson City when the two vehicles collided head-on.  Joshua Lee Ammons, 23, was a passenger in the vehicle with Allison.

Allison passed away while en route to Memorial Mission Hospital.  He was being transported by Cherokee Tribal EMS.  Ammons was taken by Tribal EMS to the Cherokee Indian Hospital where he was treated and released.  Tomes was taken by a Swain County Ambulance to Memorial Mission where he was treated and released.

Ray Stamper, EBCI Public Safety communications manager, stated that the incident is still being investigated.  “Charges are pending at this time.”
