Tribe signs MOU renewal with University of Tennessee – Knoxville

Principal Chief Michell Hicks (seated right) signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) renewal with the University of Tennessee – Knoxville on Thursday, Aug. 21.  The MOU, established by Chief Hicks and then-UTK president Jan Schemic in 2008 – must be reviewed and renewed each year.  It allows up to 20 EBCI tribal members to attend the university without paying “out-of-state” tuition.  Currently, the Tribe has nine members enrolled in the university and has had as many as 14.
