CHEROKEE CENTRAL SCHOOLS SPRING SPORTS

Spring sports are in full swing, so why not enjoy the wonderful spring weather by coming out and supporting the Cherokee Braves during the spring sports season? Sometimes spring sports do not get as much attention as the fall and winter sports, but the kids work just as hard during the spring.  So, please come out and support the Braves this spring! You may just enjoy yourself.

DISTRACTED DRIVING AWARENESS

April 2014 is Distracted Driving Awareness Month.  According to the National Safety Council, thousands die needlessly each year because people continue to use their cell phones while driving, handheld or hands-free.  Join the National Safety Council this month in urging those you care about to:  stop using their cell phones while driving; recognize that hands-free devices offer no safety benefit; understand the dangers of the cognitive distraction to the brain; and tell others about the dangers of cell phone distracted driving.

The National Safety Council estimates 25 percent of crashes involve cell phones (21 percent due to phone conversations and 4 percent due to text messaging).  Drivers using handheld or hands-free cell phones are four times as likely to crash.  The number one cause of workplace death is car crashes followed by assaults, incidents involving objects or equipment and falls. Think of your safety and the safety of those around you – be responsible.

OJT (ON-THE-JOB-TRAINING) SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT

The Boys Club will advertise for OJT Summer Youth workers beginning Monday, April 21 and will accept applications through Friday, May 2.  They will work from Monday, June 9 through Friday, Aug. 1.
