CULLOWHEE – Western Carolina University will host its 13th annual Gender Research Conference on Thursday, March 6.
Themed “Women and Gender in the 1960s: The Beginning of a Revolution,” the event will be held in the Blue Ridge Conference Room of Balsam Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All sessions are free and open to the public.
At 10 a.m., a panel of students, faculty and staff who were at Western Carolina in the 1960s will discuss “If the 1960s Came to Campus.” Topics will include differences in visitation rules for males and females, diversity in the student body and how such events as the Vietnam War and the women’s movement impacted campus.
Then from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., students will participate in a poster session in which they will share and answer questions about research on various topics, including gender differences in the 1960s compared to today.
A panel will then present past research on salary equity at WCU. Following the presentation will be a discussion of the current status of the salary equity study in relation to American Association of University Women guidelines and expectations.
